Murray hopes to set up Stepanek grudge tie

ANDY MURRAY could set up a US Open grudge match against the man whose antics he slammed as "stupid" at Wimbledon two months ago. (Scotsman.com)

The 18-year-old Scot meets fellow qualifier Arnaud Clement in the second round tonight, while Czech Radek Stepanek is also due on court against Nicolas Kiefer.

If Murray and Stepanek win they would set up a third-round repeat of their tempestuous meeting at Wimbledon which Murray won in straight sets.

Afterwards Murray accused his opponent of gamesmanship after the Czech appeared to be trying to put him off.

Not that Murray will yet be looking beyond Clement, who is a former Australian Open finalist and world top ten-ranked player who beat Juan Carlos Ferrero in his first round match. "It would have been great to play Ferrero but obviously I have got a better chance against Clement so I am looking forward to it," said Murray.

Murray believes he is as fit as ever at the moment.

He said: "I have worked really hard on the practice court and I think I have proved that I am not in such bad shape after all."
